First Aid at Work
This comprehensive and practical 3-day course will qualify participants to take responsibility as a First Aider at work. It is accredited by the
HSE and will help the business to meet the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. (Since Oct 2009 it
has replaced the 4-day course.)
The course is run for groups, on your site at a time and date to suit you.

- Priorities of first aid
- Managing an incident
- Roles/ responsibilities of employers & employees for first aid at work
- Care of the unconscious casualty
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Disorders of the airway
- Dealing with bleeding and shock
- Causes of unconsciousness
- Burns and scalds
- Injuries to bones, muscles & joints
- Poisoning
- Recognition and management of major illnesses
- Recognition of minor illnesses and appropriate action
- Eye injuries
- Miscellaneous injuries
- Record keeping and accident reporting
- Infection control
- Communication and delegation in an emergency
- Manage the transportation of a casualty
Who is the course for?
This qualification is suitable for all staff who work in a high risk business, where the risk assessment has indicated the higher level of first aid
cover is needed. It is ideal for the private and public sectors.
For people who need a lower level of first aid cover, the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course is available.
How long does the course last?
18 hours.
How is the course assessed?
End of course candidate review is carried out by independent, external assessors through written, practical and oral assessment. Certificates are valid
for three years.
The course can be refreshed through attending the First Aid at Work – Refresher course.

the HSE strongly recommend an annual update between courses.
In October 2009 the requirements for first aid training in the workplace changed. All our courses comply with the new changes.
